FX's horror drama series "The Strain" premiered its first season last year which told the story of a vampire-like virus spreading through New York City. Combining horror and science, the show elicited many gasps as shocked fans saw the parasite responsible for converting humans to vampires spreading fast throughout the city. While The Master escaped the clutches of Eph, Setrakian and his team, what is next for this motely group of hunters?

TVGuide reports that when the season premieres this Sunday, Eph and Nora will create a biological weapon that will kill the Strigoi. According to the episode's preview clip, the former head of the CDC team and his closest ally will create a virus to fight the vampire-like virus. Will they be successful?

While Nora and Eph use science to fight the evil, former vampire hunter Setrakian searches for an ancient text. Screen Crush reports that this book is known as "The Story of the Occido Lumen" and tells the origin and history of Occido Lumen.

The book contains inside knowledge of the vampire Strigoi and will most likely provide an answer on how to kill them. The bad news is that the search for this book will put the entire team at risk. Moreover, anyone who possesses the ancient text always meets a bloody end.

While the hunters get to work to eliminate the threat, The Master is plotting his revenge. He unleashes a new breed of bloodthirsty creatures on Eph and his allies. The worst part is, he uses Eph's ex-wife Kelly to control them.

TVLine reports that Eph's allies will increase this season by one member. A new character played by Samantha Mathis appears throughout season two and joins the team in their fight. She is a city councilwoman in Staten Island who wants to stop the plague. Additionally, the Master may have escaped in season one but he is definitely injured.

"The Strain" premieres its second season on Sunday, July 12 at 10 p.m. EST on FX.
