'The Returned' Season 2: show may still be cancelled

The specter of a cancellation for A&E's "The Returned" is still in the air, but Executive Producer Carlton Cuse and loyal fans are hopeful that a renewal will be issued instead. The Season 1, which ended with lots of issues needing answers, had 10 episodes and suffered from very low ratings. Such performance normally results in the show getting the axe.

One thing going for the series though is Netflix, the video streaming service, which sealed an exclusive deal for the 10 episodes to be launched as a Netflix original beginning last March in all regions outside the U.S. and Canada, according to Deadline. "Episodes will be available weekly for Netflix members to stream within 24 hours of the U.S. broadcast and Netflix will add the series to its North America portfolio next year."

This basically means that the actual viewership of the series is not dictated by the ratings alone. It could be profitable for A&E to continue with the series knowing it has the built-in Netflix audience.

"The Returned" is an English remake of the "Les Revenants," developed by Carlton Cuse, and the series follows residents in a small town whose lives are turned upside down when long-dead people begin reappearing (and they're not zombies).

Season 1 left a lot of unanswered questions expected to be answered in Season 2—Will Helen (Michelle Forbes) be able to blow up the dam and what will happen if it did blow up? How will Tommy (Kevin Alejandro) react when he finds out about the father of Rowan's (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) baby? Will Victor (Dylan Kingwell) return or is he gone permanently? Why are people coming from the dead? Is Ben (Keenan Tracey) really dead? Will Adam (Rhys Ward) be punished for his crimes? What connects Lena (Sophie Lowe) and Camille (India Ennenga)? Will Jack (Mark Pellegrino) and Claire (Tandi Wright) get back together? Who else is dead?
