'The Originals' season 4 air date, news, spoilers: Julie Plec talks about fate of series

Since the final season of "The Vampire Diaries" is already ongoing, many are wondering what the conclusion of the series will present to its spin-off show, "The Originals."

The next season of "The Originals" is expected to bring an interesting development to the storyline, especially after what happened in the finale of "The Originals" season 3. The Mikaelsons were left in an unfortunate situation, which has fans wondering how the series will continue.

Nevertheless, the executive producer of the series, Julie Plec, explained that she is looking forward to the upcoming season of the series. She stated that though "The Vampire Diaries" is coming to a close, it is not the same fate for its spin-off series.

During an interview with Nerdist, Plec explained that the upcoming season can delve deeper into the well-loved characters of the series, despite the ending of "The Vampire Diaries."

She said in the same interview: "My hope is either that it doesn't affect it at all or if anything, it makes The Originals a playground of opportunity to see some of these characters again. That would be my desire is to keep that show going and to use it as a platform to have some very special visitors over time."

Aside from that, there are rumors that a character from "The Vampire Diaries" will be joining the spin-off series. However, Plec did not reveal who it will be, causing more speculations on the season ahead.

There are also plenty of speculations regarding the future of "The Originals." Many fans believe that it could be canceled, which will break the hearts of a number of viewers.

Meanwhile, a release date for the new season was already revealed. Though there has yet to be any details on the synopsis of the season, fans will have to wait for more news on what will happen to their favorite characters.

"The Originals" will return to small screens on March 17, 2017.
