The first half of "The Originals" season 3 left a climactic cliffhanger that showed tension and revenge are inevitable in the next half of the season.

In its last episode, lead character Klauss (Joseph Morgan) admitted his love for Cami (Leah Pipes). But right after his confession, his ex-sweetheart, Aurora (Rebecca Breeds), murdered Cami and left her body lying near a sleeping Klaus. Engulfed with rage, Klaus is definitely going to avenge his lover's death.

In an interview with Variety, the show's creator, Julie Plec, admitted that a pissed off Klaus would make the storyline more fun. "In spite of the turn of events for him, he does get the bite of the vengeance bug. Once he finally gets his hands on Aurora, it's not going to be pretty," she teased.

Another character is going to enter episode 15. TVLine disclosed that Matt Cedeño of "Devious Maids" will be playing Cortez, a manipulative and vengeful vampire from the past who comes after the Mikaelsons to seek revenge.

"He's a very intriguing character, one of the most dangerous folks we've met," executive producer Michael Narducci told TVLine.

Viewers are going to expect some challenges for the Mikaelson family as well. In the official synopsis of the new episode titled "A Ghost Along the Mississippi," it is revealed that Aurora's equally evil brother Tristan (Oliver Auckland) possesses a powerful weapon that could destroy the family. Klaus and his siblings Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Freya (Riley Voelkel) will have to unite to fight Tristan.

Additionally, a conflict between the Mikaelson siblings and the old vampire society, The Strix, would be ignited in the next half of the third season.

Finally, a crossover between "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals" could happen in the upcoming season. Plec confirmed there are plans for such in a separate interview with Variety.

"I've wanted to do this for a really long time and find a way to do it that didn't feel like we were jamming story for the sake of cross-pollinating the shows," she explained.

"The Originals" season 3 returns to The CW on Jan. 29 at 9/8c.
