'The Mummy' 2017 film release date, news: Tom Cruise's scream is now a ringtone

(YouTube/ Universal Pictures)Tom Cruise's scream in "The Mummy" trailer is hilariously turned into a ringtone that is rather hypnotic.

Welcome to a new world of gods and monsters...and never-ending memes apparently. Ever since an unexpected booboo occurred concerning the film's trailer, "The Mummy" has become the center of laughter instead of fright. It looks like the task to create Universal's Monster universe could turn out to be difficult after all.

On Dec. 4, Universal Pictures released the first two-minute long trailer for "The Mummy." It features an ancient queen whose tomb was carefully unearthed and placed on a large aircraft. As if controlled by a malevolent force, a flock of birds ram into the plane, causing a crash that then removes the mummy from her coffin, who unleashes her wrath on the modern world.

It sounds scary already, right? It would have remained as such, if not for a terrible yet funny mistake that happened, changing the scare to unbearable hilarity.

A few days ago, multiple sources were able to uncover a "Mummy" trailer uploaded by IMAX to YouTube, only with the exception that it was missing some sound effects. The result was sheer madness, as netizens quickly rushed to see the incredibly funny blunder. Unfortunately, though, it has already been taken down due to copyright issues.

The comedy should have ended there, but, because people are insanely talented, Tom Cruise's scream was turned into a ringtone, all thanks to the sound-effects-less trailer. Twitter user William Wilkinson was generous enough to share it with the rest of the world.

Clearly, this isn't the publicity that the film wanted for itself, but, if it is any consolation, any publicity is good enough to spread awareness before it comes out in theaters. The only trouble now is that instead of people getting scared, people will laugh as they remember the day IMAX made a life-changing mistake, much to the delight of fans.

"The Mummy" is set to scare — or make people laugh — in theaters by June 9, 2017.
