'The Maze Runner: The Death Cure' release date news: Movie to pick up one year after the events in 'Scorch Trials'

After it was rumored that "The Maze Runner 3: The Death Cure" would be canceled due to the injuries that Dylan O'Brien sustained while filming his scenes for the said movie, the latest in the rumor mill is that the movie will proceed with O'Brien still in it, but with an altered plot.
According to reports, it is possible for "Maze Runner 3" to open with a scene featuring the rescue of Minho (Ki Hong Lee). It can be recalled that in "The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials," Thomas (O'Brien) and the Gladers found themselves in the middle of a fight. After the Right Arm battled the World in Catastrophe: Killzone Experiment Department (WCKD), Janson (Aidan Gillen) and Ava Paige (Patricia Clarkson) were able to escape, but Minho failed to do so.
However, despite the speculation that the sequel will pick up from the events that were left hanging in the last "Maze Runner" movie, it turns out that, all along, the upcoming movie has been planned to commence with a time leap, starting from the events that happen a year later in its predecessor.
"This next one will be cool because we're gonna cut maybe a year later. Yeah, so it'll be cool. Some things have happened off screen, which is gonna make the movie feel even bigger," revealed Director Wes Ball in an interview with Collider.
Meanwhile, it was also rumored earlier that "Maze Runner 3" was already canceled after the serious injuries that O'Brien got while filming his scenes in the movie last March. According to reports, O'Brien suffered concussions, facial lacerations, and facial fractures in the accident caused by the miscalculation of the driver of one of the vehicles used in the scenes.
Despite his injuries, though, it was learned that the movie is still proceeding with O'Brien still very much part of it, and the movie is not canceled in any way, just delayed.
"I just want to let everyone know that yes, Dylan was hurt, but that he's going to be okay. Not life threatening in any way. Production is postponed but certainly not cancelled. All that matters now is that Dylan recovers. We love you, Dylan!!!" "The Maze Runner: The Death Cure" writer James Dashner said in a tweet days after O'Brien's accident transpired.
"The Maze Runner: The Death Cure" arrives in theaters on Jan. 12, 2018.
