'The Fosters' season 4 spoilers: hope for Jude and Connor

(Facebook/TheFostersTV)Jude and Connor may not be over in "The Fosters" season 4.

Jude (Hayden Byerly) is going to be one emotional wreck in the fourth season of "The Fosters" airing this summer.

After losing his new love interest Jack (Tanner Buchanan), who died during the last installment's finale, Byerly's character is on a bumpy and difficult ride towards healing and moving on. At an early age, he has experienced a lot of heartaches, starting with his coming to terms with his sexuality and admitting that he likes boys, to having his first relationship. He and Connor (Gavin MacIntosh) bravely faced the backlash of being in a gay relationship and had each other's back until the unexpected break. Connor had to accompany his mom and leave town, and although they promised to work things out, the couple still broke up.

Jude then became interested in Jack, another foster kid, but his untimely death was his undoing. Jack was actually the reason why he called it quits with Connor, even though the latter wanted a second chance.

Byerly told Enstars that his character would continue to mourn for Jack in season 4. As for a possible reunion with Connor, the young actor was noncommittal but said the show is keeping the doors open in case MacIntosh would want to return to the series.

"I'm not exactly sure. Gavin has said that he's moved on to other things. But as for myself and the writers and everyone else, [we] said that he's welcome to come back. I'm pretty sure if he said, "Hey, I want to come back for an episode," they would make that happen. So I stand behind 'The Fosters' 100 percent and I wish him the best," he said,

Meanwhile, Jude will not be the only one of Lena (Sherri Saum) and Stef's (Teri Polo) children who will have a difficult time in the upcoming installment. The promo reveals that Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) is in trouble when her boyfriend Nick (Louis Hunter) starts acting weird after seeing her and Mat (Jordan Rodrigues) kissing. In the clip, Nick suddenly shows up inside Mariana's room holding a gun. A scene where he is holding several students hostage is also shown.

"The Fosters" season 4 will return this June 20, 8:00 p.m. EST on Freeform.
