'The Flash' season 3 plot spoilers: Captain Cold to be The Flash's main opponent

(Facebook/ DC's Legends of Tomorrow)Will Wentworth Miller's Captain Cold be The Flash's main opponent when "The Flash" returns for its season 3?

Even if Grant Gustin's "The Flash" is currently on a hiatus and is not expected to be seen on the small screen until it returns for its season 3 this fall, fans can't help but talk about the DC superhero series, speculating as who the Scarlet Speedster's main opponent would be once the series returns for its third season run.

With the many speculations as to who Flash's main opponent will be, one can be easily thrown off his balance and be left not knowing what to believe. However, in an interview with DC Entertainment, Gustin shared what the viewers can expect from the show as far as his next opponent is concerned.

"I've heard whispers that we might have a Big Bad that isn't a metahuman! Which is kinda cool," the actor said.

Avid fans of the series know too well that The Flash, also known as the Scarlet Speedster and Barry Allen as his alter ego, battled two metahumans in its first two seasons: Reverse-Flash during the first season and Zoom in the just concluded season 2.

In the event, though, that The Flash will, indeed, be pitted against somebody who does not have supernatural powers in its third season, Moviepilot opines that it can be Captain Cold. According to the movie blog site, the superhero's move in the season 2 finale episode of the series, wherein he traveled back in time to save his mother from the hands of Reverse-Flash, could have opened the doors to this possibility, which can be inspired by the comic book "Flashpoint."

In the "Flashpoint" comic book, The Flash tweaks the present timeline, only to find out later on that he is no longer Central City's greatest hero, but Leonard Snart, aka Captain Cold. Nonetheless, Captain Cold's morality is questionable since he applies brutal and vicious methods as he plays his role as the city's hero.

In another DC superhero series on The CW, "Legends of Tomorrow," Captain Cold was portrayed by Wentworth Miller. Despite his death in the series, there are reports that he may return as a guest, which is not surprising as the show is about time-traveling superheroes, which means the character can pop into the series anytime.

In an exclusive interview of Deadline with Greg Berlanti, "Legends of Tomorrow," "The Flash," and "Arrow" co-creator and executive producer, it was revealed that Miller's contract is not just exclusive to one DC show on The CW. This reveal just bolsters the belief of the many that Miller may, indeed, reprise his Captain Cold character not just in "Legends of Tomorrow but in "The Flash" series, too.

"We always knew that he wouldn't be a permanent member of The Waverider... we also knew we loved him on the show and all the shows, Flash as well," Berlanti said.
