'The Dark Tower' release date news 2016: After the Gunslinger vs. Man in Black poster, is a trailer next?

(Reuters/ Leon Neal)Idris Elba will be playing the role of the Gunslinger in the film adaptation of Stephen King's novel "The Dark Tower."

Film adaptations of critically acclaimed books have been the trend nowadays, with the "Twilight" saga, "Hunger Games" series, and the "Harry Potter" books leading the pack. Another real-life take is dawning next year, and it is slowly showing its fangs as early as now.

A tweet from Jordan Maison, editor-in-chief of Cinelinx, has revealed what appears to be the first look to "The Dark Tower" movie adaptation based on Stephen King's work. Matthew McConaughey, the Man in Black, is having a staring contest with the Gunslinger, who will be brought to life by Idris Elba. The tension in the photo is so palpable that it feels like they are leaping from the image to the spectators.

This, of course, brought fans of the book and the actors together in showing their excitement on the development of the movie. Some are already clamoring for a trailer that will further tease the plot of the film, and it appears it could be happening in the near future.

Last October, a leaked, unfinished video has made rounds online, which appeared to be the supposed trailer for the movie. It was expected to debut at Entertainment Weekly's PopFest, but instead it got publicized in a gossipy way, which is an even bigger spectacle for those who are scouring information about the movie. Unfortunately, the video has been removed as per request of the studio.

That being said, the leak happened before a poster was revealed. If the tweeted image is going to be the first of the many posters for "The Dark Tower," fans have reasons to believe that a trailer may not be far behind, much to the delight of anticipating viewers.

Idris Elba will be playing the role of the Gunslinger, Roland Deschain, who is on a quest to save the world by reaching a certain tower. This proves to be a difficult task, as a supernatural being only known as the Man in Black, or some people refer to him as Walter Padick, also has his eyes set on the tower. With it, the sorcerer will be able to rule over infinite realms and kingdoms.

"The Dark Tower" will be enchanting audiences by July 28, 2017.
