'The Crown' season 2 spoilers, news: Prince Philip and Prince Charles will take the spotlight in new season
Production has kicked off for "The Crown" season 2 and while there are many things to look forward to in the upcoming installment, fans are to watch out for more details about the life of Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth's husband.
In a recent interview with People, show creator Peter Morgan said, "We start to focus on Charles as a young boy and his education, and on Philip and his back story." Executive producer Suzanne Mackie also said, "We glance backward to Philip's childhood and his upbringing, and how that might have impacted him as a man, a father and as Prince Consort - which is fascinating."
Morgan further explained that the series will also introduce the changes after Britain started to shift to the modern times in 1964. The executive producer referred to this era as "terrific" as Britain began to end the Edwardian age.
Historical accounts detail that in the early 1960's there was some sort of a social confusion among the people of Britain. More of this period is expected to be featured heavily in the upcoming season of "The Crown."
Filming for some of Philip's Commonwealth tour has been going on in South Africa. The trip details Philip's time away from his family and wife as he explored the Commonwealth world. Philip's journeys are expected to be depicted in "The Crown" season 2.
Aside from the shift in lead stories, "The Crown" season 2 will also see huge changes in the cast. Claire Foy, who plays Queen Elizabeth in the series, revealed that fans will most likely have to deal with the departure of the core cast since older stars will enter the historical drama.
Finally, fans who have been wanting to get a good look at Princess Diana will have to wait until the end of "The Crown" season 3. The first wife of Prince Charles will have more air-time in the upcoming seasons, after the back stories of Prince Philip and Prince Charles are told.
"The Crown" season 2 is slated for a late 2017 premiere on Netflix.
