'The Blacklist' season 4 spoilers, news: episode 9 to air January, not December

Thursday's episode of "The Blacklist" season 4 answered the question that many fans have long been wanting to be clarified. Apparently, Red is Liz's father... or did he lie?
First things first, Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) once again takes Liz (Megan Boone) in hopes of getting her to become the person who can save his life. However, Red (James Spader) wants Liz to live without any involvement in Kirk's case.
According to TVLine's recap of "The Blacklist" season 4 episode 8, Red then offered himself to Kirk so Liz can go free. Apparently, Kirk quickly agreed and started to torture Red. However, in the middle of the chaos, Kirk asked Red if he is Liz's father.
"What do you want me to say? Yes. Yes, Elizabeth is my daughter," Red admitted as he went into delirium.
Fans are wondering if Red was telling the truth or if he was lying. Since there is not much known yet about what will happen in episode 9, viewers can only wait for further explanation about why Katarina (Lotte Verbeek) did not say in the first place who Liz's father is.
Meanwhile, CarterMatt reveals that instead of a December return for the series, "The Blacklist" season 4 episode 9 will air Thursday, Jan. 5. The show will be on a holiday hiatus and the outlet notes that a January comeback is much better than airing the upcoming episodes sometime in December to reduce the number of hiatuses in-between episodes.
As for questions about a new storyline for the second part of season 4, fans should wait for further announcements but it can be safe to assume that Red and Katarina's past will be explored deeper to give an explanation about Red's claims that he is Liz's real dad.
For now, fans can only hope that the truth about Liz's biological father can be explained this season so she can start anew with her daughter and Tom (Ryan Eggold).
"The Blacklist" season 4 returns Jan. 5, 2017 on NBC.
