Over the past three seasons, Red has largely become the most mysterious character in "The Blacklist," except after Kirk appeared. On the other hand, Red is still the hero of the show and it was recently teased that viewers will finally get a closer look at the real Red Reddington when season four arrives.

In an interview with Digital Trends, executive producer Jon Bokenkamp explained that the beauty of the series relies largely on the mysteries, especially with Red (James Spader), whose true colors have yet to be revealed.

On the other hand, Bokenkamp hinted of the possibility of fans seeing more of who Red truly is from the inside. "We're getting closer and closer to understanding him, and the 'Cape May' episode was a good example of that. But he's still somewhat of an enigma to us - and that is part of what makes the show fun," he said.

Could this mean that fans will finally understand the true relationship Red has with Liz (Megan Boone)? Is he someone biologically related to his former partner? These answers may finally be answered in "The Blacklist" season four.

Meanwhile, Bokenkamp also said during the interview that Kirk's (Ulrich Thomsen) entry to the storyline will play a huge role in keeping the story moving in season four. "We'll see him a fair amount, yes. He's [Kirk] a critical part of season 4," the EP explained.

Kirk's revelation in the previous installment gave everyone more reasons to be confused about Liz's parentage. However, it was recently confirmed that Lotte Verbeek will be returning to reprise her role as Katarina Rostova, Liz's biological mother. It is unclear if Katarina's return will explain Liz's roots but fans expect that Liz will finally find out the truth about who her parents are.

The only sure thing in the new season is that Red will definitely track down Liz's whereabouts. She was kidnapped in the finale of season three and Red believes strongly that Kirk is the mastermind. Will he get to where Liz is held in time before anything complicated arises?

"The Blacklist" season four premieres September 22 on NBC.
