Fans were left with many questions at the end of the first season of The Affair, and viewers will have to hold on to their seats to find out what really happened to Scotty (Colin Donnell) and to find out the truth about his murder.

The ending of the first season of Showtime's high-rated drama bathed in so much mystery that it left its viewers wondering about the details of Scotty's killing. However, fans did see a slew of present-day events where Noah (Dominic West) and Alison (Ruth Wilson) are finally living together in a decent apartment in the Big Apple. After both Noah and Alison places a girl to bed (who is presumed to be their daughter), Detective Jeffries comes knocking on the door to arrest Noah.

Fans are left with a semi-conclusion that Noah is being arrested for Scotty's murder. Alison said to Noah that she can get him out of the situation, and it's up to her to keep her husband out of jail.

The Affair creator, Sarah Treem, talked to E! Online to offer clarity about possible scenarios that can happen when the show returns for its second season sometime in 2015. Treem was asked if the real murderer responsible for Scotty's death will ever be revealed in season 2, and the Treem responded that viewers need to "understand" the ending of the first season "objectively.

"In my mind, in terms of what the truth of the crime itself is at the end, I think we need to and we are going to see that and understand what happened there objectively," said Treem in the E! Online interview.

"In instances like that, where there is crime or something, where it's not basically the emotional interaction between two people ... that to me is the one moment where I actually want to know the truth," added Treem.
