'Teen Wolf' season 6 news: Arden Cho announces departure as Kira's storyline has been wrapped up

(MTV)Arden Cho announced that Kira will no longer be part of 'Teen Wolf' season 6.

Actress Arden Cho has announced her departure from "Teen Wolf." Cho released a video statement saying that her character Kira will no longer be featured in the sixth season of the action-horror teen drama.

"I love Kira Yukimura so much. I love the Yukimura family. I loved my experience on 'Teen Wolf.' I love the cast and crew. It's been an amazing almost three-and-a-half years. But unfortunately it looks like we are wrapped up with Kira's storyline and she won't be coming back for season 6," the actress revealed in a YouTube video.

Cho expressed sadness that Kira's storyline with the Skinwalkers and with her powers will no longer be explored and resolved. Given that "Teen Wolf" has so many characters, there is no longer room to explore Kira's storyline. However, since "Teen Wolf" is a supernatural series, Cho did entertain the possibility of returning in the future.

Cho ended her emotional video thanking fans for all the support they have given her throughout her stint with "Teen Wolf."

While Cho's departure comes as a shock to many "Teen Wolf" fans, showrunner Jeff Davis had hinted during the end of season 5 that there would be changes coming to Kira's character. Initially, viewers thought that her character would just be absent for a few episodes after rejoining the Skinwalkers in the desert.

"There are some big changes coming to the show next season; you'll have to wait and see the fate of Kira. It was partially because we wanted her to go down a difficult path. We wanted to see her with her mother in the desert, to make sure we gave her a full episode to explore her character," Davis told TVLine.

Sadly, after her challenging experiences with the Skinwalkers in season 5, viewers will no longer see the story resolved in the upcoming season.

Season 6 of "Teen Wolf" returns to MTV later this year.
