(Facebook / Switched at Birth)"Switched at Birth" will return for its fifth and final season on Jan. 24, 2017 with 10 episodes.

Freeform's American family and teen drama "Switched at Birth," which will be returning for a fifth and final season, just recently got its premiere date. Although fans initially expected for season 6 to air later this year, they may have to wait for next year.

According to reports, "Switched at Birth" season 5 will premiere on Freeform on Jan. 24 next year. Season 5 episode 5 will also serve as the show's 100th episode.

As for its plot, there are speculations that the upcoming season that the show will tackle is about the marital issues between John and Kathryn Kennish — Daphne's biological parents and Bay's legal parents — and it may lead to divorce.

Also, the problem in the family is not only about the potential divorce of the Kennish couple but one of Daphne's family members may be facing a legal battle next season. Daphne's legal mother and Bay's biological mother Regina is apparently struggling from a seemingly insurmountable financial problem. Daphne and Bay are also worried for Toby and Lily as their newly born child Carlton is having some health issues.

In the upcoming season 5, fans of the show can expect the return of Gilles Marini's Angelo Sorrento, who will most likely appear in a flashback since his character had already died in season 3. Max Adler's Tank is also set to return in the same episode with Angelo.

The next chapter of the series will also introduce new faces with Michael Galante playing as a student of University of Missouri-Kansas City named Luca. Meanwhile, Valery Ortiz will also play as a tattoo artist named Noelle.

When production wrapped up in April, creator Lizzy Weiss released an emotional statement. A part of her statement reads: "The episodes will air in 2017 and you will see our final 10 stories and how we send off these characters. As for the people who made it all happen, I couldn't have scripted a more perfect ending than last night. it was just a little piece of magic."
