Surface Pro 3 vs iPad Pro 9.7 specs: Older Pro 3 has a lot of advantages over the iPad Pro 9.7s

As the 9.7-inch iPad Pro released this year, it was clear that the device was designed to take on tablets of the same size and even bigger ones like the tablet/laptop hybrids in the Surface Pro lineup. Here is how the Surface Pro 3 compares to the device from Apple.

Design

Comparing design, the Surface Pro 3 has a solid build as it is made from magnesium and comes with an inbuilt kickstand, which helps it convert into a laptop. There is a Type Cover keyboard available for the device and it comes with a plastic trackpad, as wells as a Surface Pen stylus included in the price of the device. However, there is no fingerprint scanner present on the Surface Pro 3, but it is present on the iPad Pro 9.7. As for the build of the iPad Pro 9.7, it is made from aluminum and so the device has a nice look and feel. The Apple Pencil stylus is also compatible with this tablet. There is also a Smart Keyboard that has a stand and can be used to convert it into a laptop.

Display

The iPad Pro is a smaller device and it comes with an IPS LCD screen measuring 9.7 inches with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and density of 264 pixels per inch. As for the Surface Pro 3, it has a 12-inch display with a resolution of 2160 x 1440 pixels and a density of 216 pixels per inch.

Hardware

There is either a Intel Core i3, Core i5, or Core i7 processor on the Surface Pro 3, while the iPad Pro 9.7 comes with an Apple A9X chipset coupled with a dual-core CPU clocked at 2.16 GHz and a PowerVR Series 7 GPU.

Memory

No memory card slot is present on the iPad Pro, while the Surface Pro 3 comes with one. As for RAM, the device from Apple has 2 GB on board, while the Surface Pro 3 comes with 4 GB or 8 GB. Onboard storage on the Surface Pro 3 starts at 64 GB and goes up to 512 GB, while its competitor has 32 GB and goes up to 256 GB.

Camera

On the Surface Pro 3 is a 5-megapixel camera at its rear and the same is true for its front. As for the iPad Pro 9.7, it has a 12-megapixel camera at its rear and a 5-megapixel version in front.

Price

The 32 GB version of the iPad Pro 9.7 costs $599, while the Surface Pro 3 with 64 GB on board costs $599.
