'Star Wars Rebels' season 2: New clip shows the return of Captain Rex and the classic Clones
When "Star Wars Rebels" returns for a second season, fans will get to have more classic clones reminiscent of 'The Clone Wars." And they just won't be there for show, they will actually have a lot of impact on the Ghost crew.
Captain Rex and the slew of Clone Troopers have not been seen since "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" aired its last episode in 2014. Pretty soon, though, fans will encounter them once more as they appear in "Star Wars Rebels" season two.
In season two's "Return of the Clones" promo, executive producer, Dave Filoni, talked about why Clones work and why they make a good addition to "Star Wars Rebels." He even went as far as to say that Clones may be better than Stormtroopers.
"Clones show up as a force in 'Attack of the Clones.' You need a bunch of soldiers trained really quickly, trained really well. Rather than draft people into service, you create an army specifically designed to fight, to be soldiers that won't question orders, that won't question the nature or necessarily the morality of what they have to do," he explained.
Dee Bradley Baker also talked about Rex and his popularity. He reiterated that the specific Clone is loved by all types of "Star Wars" fans, from kids to adults. Filoni added that he was relieved that fans were clamoring for Rex's return as he said that Rex's episodes were already in the works. And so he decided to include Rex in the trailer, which premiered at this "Star Wars" Celebration.
The voice actor also talked about the relationship between Kanan (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) and Rex.
"Kanan does not like Rex. And, and Rex thinks he's seen better and worked with better," he says.
Also stressed in the clip is how not all clones are involved in Order 66, which all fans and viewers of 2005's "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" will know of. They also pointed out that in the end, clones are not necessarily villains but are heroes, as embedded in their DNAs.
Disney XD premieres "Star Wars Rebels" season two this Oct. 14, 9:30 p.m.
