One of "Star Wars'" most iconic characters will be getting his origin story.

Disney and Lucasfilm have recently announced that the upcoming Anthology movie will delve into Han Solo's back story before the events of the "Star Wars" saga series.

Christoper Miller and Phil Lord, the duo responsible for the "The Lego Movie," have been tasked to direct the upcoming movie.

"We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us," the directing duo Miller and Lord said.

While it's still too early for casting announcements, it has been revealed that the movie will feature Han Solo in his youth.

"He'll definitely be probably in the high teens, low 20s. We're not introducing you to a 10-year-old Han Solo," Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy said.

Lawrence Kasdan and Joe Kasdan will be writing the screenplay.

The story will reportedly explore how Han Solo came to be. The character was known as a smuggler and a thief before he encounters Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

According to Kennedy, "I think the key here is that we are identifying an event or events in Han Solo's life that give you some idea of who he is and why he is the character we have all known to love."

The Han Solo stand-alone movie will be the second film in the "Star Wars Anthology" series.

The first, "Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One" will be released on Dec. 16, 2016.

While details on the third movie have not yet been confirmed. It is rumored that the third film will focus on the origin story of Boba Fett.

The "Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo" movie is slated to be released on May 25, 2018.
