'Star Trek 3' news: Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad fame set to play villain; cast will include 3 key female roles
While "Star Trek 3" is still in its pre-production phase, there are ample developments taking place that are sure to excite Star Trek fans. The latest news surrounding the movie is that Justin Lin of the "Fast & Furious" franchise has been appointed as the director after JJ Abrams went on to direct "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", according to Venture Capital Post. Rather than following Roberto Orci's story, the writers and creative team will churn out their own ingenious story to the franchise. Simon Pegg and Doug Jung will take the writer's seats for the upcoming Star Trek movie.
Perhaps the most interesting news is that "Breaking Bad" actor Bryan Cranston is in talks with Paramount Pictures to appear as the main antagonist of the movie. Apparently, the main villain of "Star Trek 3" is supposed to be like Bryan Cranston. While the cast isn't yet finalized, Cranston would certainly be a wonderful addition to the "Star Trek 3" team. His calm yet violent nature in portraying Walter White in "Breaking Bad" also gives fans an idea of what the villain's personality may be like.
Den Of Geek reports that three major female characters will be added in the upcoming movie. One female character will be the captain of the Federation ship, another will be the President of the United Federation of Planets and the third will be the ex-wife of Doctor McCoy. His ex-wife's appearance means Bones will get significant screen time in the movie.
Speculations are rife on the possible villains of the movie. One rumor hints that General Chang or Kinglon Commander Kor, the military leader of the Kinglons, would be the main antagonist. He is certainly a popular villain among Star Trek fans. Another speculation is that Gul Dukat, a Cardassian Admiral with an affinity towards violence, could also be the next villain. Q is also another popular villain and his arrogance matches Water White's character.
"Star Trek 3" is scheduled to air on July 8, 2016.
