'South Park' season 20 release date, spoilers: Mr. Garrison, National Anthem reboot and more in premiere
"South Park" is returning soon for season 20, which will feature a reboot of the National Anthem by an American icon.
According to Screen Crush, the "South Park" season 20 premiere will touch on the current elections. However, it won't delve too much on presidential candidates Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump for the entirety of the season.
The first episode of "South Park" season 20, which is titled "Member Berries," will open with Mr. Garrison "still on the campaign trail." Mr. Garrison is the stand-in for Trump, Uproxx reported. Viewers can also expect a controversy surrounding the reboot of the National Anthem, which is a shout-out to the Colin Kaepernick controversy. It can be remembered that the football quarterback did not stand up during the national anthem, which sparked a huge uproar.
The American Icon who is going to sing the reboot has not been revealed yet. Speculations range from Mr. Garrison himself to Taylor Swift, but fans can only find out who it is once the episode airs.
Also according to the report, the movement Black Lives Matter will be featured in the season. The "South Park" mainstay character Cartman has been spotted wearing a shirt with "Token's Life Matters" printed on it, which is a play on the movement's name. The image can be seen on Comedy Central's website.
Another thing to look forward to is the meaning behind the episode's title. At the moment, "Member Berries" could stand for anything.
The series was created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Deadline reported. The two are also executive producers, along with Anne Garefino and Frank C. Agnone III. Eric Stough, Bruce Howell, Adrien Beard and Vernon Chatman are the show's producers.
Not much of the premiere is known, but a clip can be watched below. Fans will also not have to wait long until the show returns.
"South Park" season 20 "Member Berries" airs on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 10 p.m. PT on Comedy Central.
