Sony Xperia XR leaks and rumors: a new member of Xperia X series to launch in September?

(Twitter courtesy of Sony Xperia)Xperia XR is said to be the next member of the Xperia X series coming this September.

Sony is reportedly developing a new phone that should be part of the Xperia X series. The Xperia X was released just four months ago and now leaked renders suggest that the rumored device, dubbed as the Xperia XR, might soon arrive.

The renders were shared by popular tipster @OnLeaks. It is now believed that the Xperia XR is actually the previously rumored device known only by its model name F8331. Based on the photos released by GSM Arena last month, it appears that the F8331 looks much like the ones shown by @OnLeaks.

The previous photos and the latest renders show that the two share similar characteristics. For instance, there is the identical style of the rear camera sensor as well as its placement. The Xperia XR also looks quite like the Xperia X, in which the buttons are located on the same spot.

It can also be seen on the clear and crisp image from @OnLeaks that the Xperia XR will have a USB Type-C connection. If proven to be true, it would be Sony's first time to use this type of port. The tipster also mentioned in his post that the device will have the dimensions 146.4 x 71.9 x 8.1 millimeters. This means that the phone will be larger than its predecessor. The Xperia X is measured at 142.7 x 69.4 x 7.9 mm.

Besides the dimensions and how the Xperia XR would look like, not much is known about the device. However, Sony is expected to shed some light on this device soon. The company has confirmed its presence at the upcoming IFA conference in Berlin this September.

The new set of renders looks like the real deal from Sony, given how the design conforms with the Xperia X series of phones. However, there is no way of verifying the sources of these images so it's still best to take these reports with a grain of salt.
