Sony to launch five high-end and midrange Xperia smartphones at MWC 2017
Japanese conglomerate Sony is expected to introduce five Xperia smartphone models, including its flagship device, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 trade show starting Feb. 27 in Barcelona, Spain. The models are said to be split between the top-end and midrange.
According to reports, the flagship handset is code-named "Yoshino." The phone is said to feature a 5.5-inch 2160x3840 pixel display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, and a Sony IMX400 camera sensor. The phone also has a 4K resolution screen and 4 or 6 GB of RAM.
The handset code-named "BlancBright" will feature a 5.5-inch 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution screen, a Sony IMX400 camera, and either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or a Snapdragon 653 processor. The phone, which will also come with 4 GB of RAM, is expected to be the newer version of the Xperia X model.
Expected as a midrange phone, the device code-named "Keyaki" will have a 5.2-inch 1080 x 1920 pixel screen, a MediaTek Helio P20 processor, and 4 GB of RAM. The phone will also have a 23-megapixel main camera, a 16-megapixel front-facing camera, and 64 GB of internal storage.
The "Hinoki" phone is rumored to have a 5-inch 720 x 1280 resolution display, a Helio P20 processor, and 32 GB of internal storage. It will also have a 16-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front camera, and 3 GB of RAM.
The other phone is code-named "Hineo," which is claimed to be a newer version of the Xperia XA model or a new model in the Xperia M line. It will come at a price of $350. There are no specifications provided for the model.
The company has already issued press invites for an event on Feb. 27, in which it is expected to launch the new devices.
Meanwhile, rivals Lenovo, Samsung, and LG are also expected to launch new smartphones at the trade show. LG is due to launch its flagship LG G6 model, while Samsung will introduce its flagship Galaxy S8 phone, and Lenovo will showcase its Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus smartphones.
