Following the shocking finale of "Sleepy Hollow" season three, Ichabod will have to deal with life minus his long-time partner, especially now that he will be joined by Diana, his new colleague.

In season three, Ichabod (Tom Mison) and fans of the show were left shocked when an unexpected twist took the life of Abbie (Nicole Beharie). Many expressed dismay and sadness over the character being killed off, considering that the show has only come up with three seasons.

However, a new gal will soon join Ichabod in his missions. TV Line confirms that Janina Gavankar will be the new cast member and she will play the role of Diana.

Diana is someone who will clash with Ichabod in the near future but they will also discover some things that they share in common. One such boat they share is loss. Ichabod lost Abbie, while Diana lost the father of her young child, whom she never really talks about.

Ichabod's new partner is further described as a former military officer whose training will definitely create conflict with that of Ichabod's. As fans know, Ichabod is more of the methodologist. Diana, on the other hand, is task-oriented and wants a lot of action.

Being a single mom, Diana, who is also a Special Agent for Homeland Security, has a tough personality although fans will see her soft side whenever her daughter joins her on-screen.

An interesting teaser was dropped following the announcement of Gavankar's casting. Diana and Ichabod will soon discover an unexpected connection that will shock not just them but the viewers as well. That connection has yet to be unveiled, which makes "Sleepy Hollow" season four exciting.

Deadline adds that Gavankar, who is a "True Blood" alumna, has been added to the cast for Diana's recurring role, which means she has chances of being promoted to a series regular. Gavankar's stay with the series will most likely be determined by the response of fans who are still grieving the loss of Abbie.

"Sleepy Hollow" season four is slated for premiere sometime early 2017.
