'Sherlock' season 4 air date, news, spoilers: Sherlock confirms Moriarty's return?

(FACEBOOK/Sherlock (Official page))Will Moriarty appear in "Sherlock" season 4? Sherlock may have dropped the big yes with a recently released trailer for the upcoming season

BBC has released a new trailer for "Sherlock" season 4 and fans should be very happy about a small but potential hint of their beloved villain's return.

In the trailer released last week, Moriarty (Andrew Scott) was featured on the first few seconds of the clip as he asked: "Miss me?" It's hard to say "no" to the iconic Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) nemesis, especially since he was believed to be dead.

Though the scene was already featured in a previous teaser unveiled earlier this year, Sherlock himself makes a statement on the new trailer that could be hinting of Moriarty's big comeback.

"Something is coming... maybe it's Moriarty, maybe it isn't," Sherlock's voice says in the background as he sits seriously with his hands holding up his chin. It seems that Sherlock himself is giving viewers the idea that Moriarty's return is not completely off the table.

Aside from the fact that Moriarty is a fan-loved character, it's a little bit impossible to imagine "Sherlock" season 4 without his presence, given that Sherlock doesn't find someone as hateful as his archenemy.

Meanwhile, there were other drops made in the trailer which could also point to a character death in the upcoming installment. Hospital staff are seen wheeling out a body covered with white sheets. It is unclear if the person lying on the hospital bed is dead or alive but it could be teasing an upcoming big death that viewers shouldn't miss.

The teaser went on to drop a lot about what fans should expect of Toby Jones' villain. As revealed earlier this year, Jones will be playing one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's most notorious villains, Culverton Smith.

In one specific scene, Jones lets out a laugh that should send chills to any Sherlock fan who might think that the famous detective doesn't get scared or cannot be controlled by anybody. It seems that the entry of Jones' character will have a major impact on Sherlock and everyone around him. Will Sherlock get out of Jones' grasp when the teaser reveals that "everyone they know is under threat?"

"Sherlock" season 4 premieres Jan. 1 with the episode titled "The Six Thatchers" on BBC.
