'Shameless' season 7 news: June Squibb added as a recurring cast

(Facebook / Shameless)Season 7 of "Shameless" will continue to feature the struggles of the Gallaghers, individually and as a whole.

Another strong woman character is added to the cast of "Shameless" season 7 with the inclusion of actress June Squibb. She will play a recurring character named Etta, who is said to play a key role in the upcoming season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Etta is a salty and peppery 80-year-old Southside Chicago woman who is further described to have owned the neighborhood forever.

It is not known yet whether or not her character will be related to Margo, also a new character who will be portrayed by actress Sharon Lawrence. Margo is described as a self-made real estate mogul who owns the coffee shop Fiona (Emmy Rossum) works in.

In season 6 finale, Fiona is seen devastated with the cancellation of her wedding to Sean (Dermot Mulroney). Margo is said to be a role model for Fiona and Etta could be another woman Fiona will be turning to for emotional guidance when season 7 airs.

In related news, "Shameless" season 7 will return with a one-month time jump from the events that occurred in season 6 finale. Frank will be out of his coma and will be set to revenge on the people he perceived to have done him wrong.

As for the other Gallaghers, Ian (Cameron Monaghan) will continue to succeed as an EMT, while Lip (Jeremy Allen White) will continue to struggle with his drinking problem. On the other hand, the younger Gallaghers, Debbie (Emma Kennedy) and Carl (Ethan Cutkosky), will be featured maturing in the upcoming season.

Debbie will take her mother duties to Franny seriously, while Carl will have to deal with growing up basically on his own as Fiona becomes busy in becoming a better version of herself as well.

"Shameless" season 7 will premiere on Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
