"Scandal" season 5 will soon be back on air, and while it has only been a little more than two months since the show went on hiatus, it will return to a six-month time jump.

The popular drama left fans reeling during the midseason finale with Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Olivia's (Kerry Washington) break-up and the revelation that she had their child aborted. Given that the show will pick up half a year after that traumatic ending, it's not surprising that the characters will be in a different place - emotionally and mentally.

According to a synopsis for the midseason premiere, the controversial exes will be seen "handling their newfound freedom in very different ways." Olivia and her gladiators will also be getting a new client, one that could trigger a national crisis.

There have been various reports on how Olivia, Fitz, Mellie (Bellamy Young) and the rest have coped with the fallout of the midseason finale. Fitz has reportedly channelled all his time and energy on ensuring that he does some good before leaving the White House while Mellie prepares to run for president. As for Olivia, she might be handling it by getting a whole new wardrobe and mind set.

A trailer for the upcoming 10th episode, titled "It's Hard out Here for a General," starts with Jake (Scott Foley) telling Olivia that he doesn't like waiting. A voice is then heard telling fans to say goodbye to the white hat, which might hint to a new and improved Olivia, at least as far as wardrobe choices are concerned as she's seen strutting in a red coat and more colourful clothes.

The clip also shows Olivia straddling Jake and kissing him, telling her team they need to get to work and informing a surprised Mellie that she won't run her campaign. Abby (Darby Stanchfield) and Olivia enjoy a little bonding time and she asks her if she misses "him," Olivia replies in the negative. The trailer ends with a secretary telling Pres. Fitz that "Miss Pope is on the line." Fitz seems like he's bracing himself for something after that announcement.

Meanwhile, a sneak peek reveals who Olivia's new client is and what case could lead to a national crisis." The short clip simply shows Huck (Guillermo Diaz) knocking on Olivia's door and informing her that they have a client. But Olivia's refusal to open the door more than a crack has gotten her colleague intrigued and worried. When the leader of the Gladiators demanded to know why everyone's being secretive, Huck revealed that their client is the head of the NSA.

"Scandal" season 5 will return to ABC on Feb. 11.
