San Diego Padres injury, roster news 2016: Starting pitcher Tyson Ross earns place on disabled list due to shoulder injury
Injuries are ravaging Major League Baseball (MLB) early this 2016 season and the San Diego Padres are no exception as starting pitcher Tyson Ross was placed on the 15-day disabled list last Tuesday because of a right shoulder inflammation.
During Ross' opening day starting stint versus the Los Angeles Dodgers at home, he had a poor performance in 5.1 innings as the visitors had seven earned runs (ER) and nine hits. The Padres ended up losing their season opener, 15-0.
However, Ross could not immediately bounce back from his lackluster performance in San Diego's first game of the season because of the shoulder injury.
In a report by ESPN, it was mentioned that the Padres only announced Ross' placement on the disabled list Saturday.
"They've got my best interest at heart," Ross shared with reporters according to ESPN.
The 28-year-old continued, "I know with our training staff, I'll be out on the field soon enough. ... I'm confident that they're going to get me out there, get me right and probably even better than ever."
Replacing Ross on the roster was Brad Hand who was waived by the Miami Marlins.
The Padres are not faring well to start the 2016 season, going 2-4 in their first six games in series versus the Dodgers and the Colorado Rapids. They are currently fourth in the National League (NL) West.
San Diego needs Ross to have a better chance of winning games this regular season, but they must wait for him to recover from the recent injury.
Last season, Ross played and started in 33 games, finishing with a 10-12 record, having a 3.26 earned run average (ERA), 212 strikeouts, and 1.31 walks and hits per innings pitched (WHIP).
The Padres are looking to return to the postseason this 2016. The last time they made it to the stage was in the 2006 season.
