San Antonio Spurs trade rumors 2016: No new name linked to team
A lot of contending teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA) are being connected non-stop to stars who are rumored to be available on the market. The San Antonio Spurs are among those squads at one point in the off-season, but as of the moment, they are not making noise on the rumor mill.
The Spurs' most recent involvement in speculations was because of their longtime center Matt Bonner who they are yet to re-sign and will likely not to. Aside from that, there are no trade or free agency talks which include San Antonio, although the Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin, Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook, Milwaukee Bucks' Greg Monroe, Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry and free agent Thomas Robinson were all linked to the Spurs this off-season.
Perhaps the one that created the most buzz among them was Curry. It was reported that the Spurs hope Kevin Durant's addition to the Warriors will have negative effects on the back-to-back reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP). When this happens, they will try to nab him in next year's free agency.
Most likely if the Spurs are to be added in a rumor or speculation, it will be about the improvement of their front line which lost a key piece last month when Tim Duncan decided to call it a career.
San Antonio already addressed Duncan's retirement by signing veterans Pau Gasol and David Lee in free agency. But for some, it seems like this was not enough and the organization needs to acquire one more big name.
It is uncertain what the Spurs are going to do next regarding the roster but as training camp nears, their plans may get clearer.
Last season, the Spurs were seen as formidable foes for the Warriors in the Western Conference but they ended up bowing out in the second round of the playoffs.
