Samsung Galaxy A9 vs Huawei Mate 8: The phablet from Huawei is faster, sturdier and prettier

With Samsung focusing on higher mid-range smartphones, which have become popular with customers, it is likely that the devices in the range like the Galaxy A9 are going to get a lot of competition from the Huawei Mate 8, which was released recently. This is how these two similar sized devices fare in a face-off.

Design

Comparing design, it is clear that the Huawei Mate 8 has a slight edge as it has a metal unibody, which makes it sturdier overall. As for its fingerprint scanner, it is positioned on its back panel and the device comes in four colors: brown, gray, gold and silver. These colors give it a premium appearance.

Coming to the Galaxy A9, it has a metal frame and glass on its front and back, which makes it very similar to the Galaxy S6. Its fingerprint scanner is included in the home button, which lies below the screen, and the device comes in white, black, gold and pink.

Display

Here, both these smartphones are pretty equal as the Galaxy A9 from Samsung has a super AMOLED display measuring 6.0 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 367 pixels per inch. On the Mate 8 is an LCD display measuring 6.0 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 368 pixels per inch.

Specs

When it comes to hardware, the HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset on the Mate 8 is well ahead in terms of speed and it is coupled with an octa-core CPU and a Mali-T880 MP4 GPU. Coming to the Galaxy A9, it has an older and slower Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset on board and it is coupled with an octa-core CPU and an Adreno 510 GPU.

Memory

Onboard each of these smartphones is a memory slot that is capable of supporting up to 128 GB of external storage. As for RAM, there is 3 GB onboard the Galaxy A9 while its competitor either comes with 3 GB or 4 GB.

Price

Comparing price, it is clear that the Samsung Galaxy A9 has an advantage as it is cheaper and costs $500 unlocked, while the Huawei Mate 8 costs $580 without a contract.
