Samsung Galaxy X release date: smartphone coming next year with Galaxy S8
Lenovo unveiled a prototype for a foldable phone recently, but Samsung already brought out its concept models for a similar device a few years ago. Recently, however, rumors have been circulating that Samsung is close to unveiling a commercial product and it could arrive next year with the Galaxy X name.
The latest rumors about the Galaxy X which arrived via a website pointed towards the device arriving along with the Galaxy S8 next year. More importantly, similar rumors have emerged over the past few months and these have hinted that the upcoming foldable smartphone will have the Galaxy X moniker. It is also expected to have a 5-inch screen when it is folded, and in this form, it will be used as a smartphone. However, when it is unfolded, it is expected to have a 7-inch screen which will allow it to be used as a tablet. This ability to be folded means that the hardware within the device will have to be located at specific locations in order to avoid being damaged. However the screen, which is expected to be an OLED version, will be able to fold along with the device.
As for the rumors about the hardware on the Galaxy X, they point towards the device coming with a Snapdragon 830 processor. The model number of the device is expected to be SM-G929F and it is likely that it will have the very best in terms of RAM and other hardware which will make it equal to next year's Galaxy S8 flagship.
More importantly, Samsung earlier this month confirmed that its foldable smartphone was right around the corner. This statement was made by Gregory Lee, the head of Samsung's North American operations and it was picked up by Recode. There have also been indications and reports that Samsung is planning two Galaxy X models, one of which will be very much like a compact that is used to store cosmetics.
If the Galaxy X does release soon, it is likely to arrive next year in February when Samsung usually releases its flagship Galaxy smartphones.
