Ariana Grande is undoubtedly one of the rising stars of the pop scene today, though the show that gave her start was recently cancelled by kids' network, Nickelodeon, after just one season.

Ariana Grande plays a lovable babysitter, Cat in the Nickelodeon show, Sam & Cat, with actress Jenette McCurdy. Unfortunately for her fans that are into the show, Sam & Cat has been cancelled after airing for just one season (36 episodes). Nickelodeon has released a statement confirming the cancellation, thanking its stars and viewers for a good run.

"Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of Sam & Cat. We are very proud of the show and its very talented cast and we wish them all the best," said Nickelodeon to Deadline.com.

There are many unconfirmed reasons behind the cancellation, but one apparent cause was rumored to be the backstage drama that goes on between Grande and McCurdy. According to reports, McCurdy is not comfortable with Grande earning more than her in the show, when it is her role "Sam" that serves as the lead.

Aside from compensation woes, McCurdy recently faced a nude photo leak scandal, causing a stain to her wholesome image. Because of these issues, the show has been on a "permanent hiatus," and after the statement that Nickelodeon released, the show is now officially running on life support.

Grande penned an open letter to her Nickelodeon family about the cancellation, and talked about her character in the show.

"One of my favorite things about Cat was that she never lost her sense of wonder. As we grow up we become more and more jaded and fearful of how we come across. We hold back a little more, protect ourselves a little more and although Cat goes through the same ridicule as anybody else does growing up, she never changed or lost her childlike wonder. To me that's the bravest, most special thing about her," wrote the singer and actress in the said letter, as reported by Music Times.
