'Rizzoli & Isles' season 7 spoilers: Maura suffers from trauma after shooting incident in episode 3

Maura (Sasha Alexander) may look okay, but she is hiding a big secret behind her gentle smile. In the upcoming episode of "Rizzoli & Isles," viewers will see how the medical examiner is coping with the injury she sustained during Korsak's (Bruce McGill) wedding.
The storyline about Alice Sands (Annabeth Gish) and her crazy mission to get revenge on Jane (Angie Harmon) officially ended in the series' back-to-back premiere episodes. The culprit was captured, but not before she shot Maura in the head. Although the wound looked flimsy from afar, the blonde is actually suffering from subdural hematoma, a serious head injury where blood has clotted between the skull and the surface of the brain.
According to TV Guide, this was executive producer Jan Nash's plan "to zap her heroines of their 'superpowers'" in preparation for the major reflecting that they will have to do in the series' finale. Nash said in her interview that Maura would have to adjust to her new condition, as the injury made a huge effect on her "giant brain." Jane's BFF will not be able to use her photographic memory for quite some time. She will most likely be depressed, but Maura will not be Maura if she just let it take her down.
"Maura's great gift is her giant brain. What does it mean to this character if in fact she can't use it fully? Is she defined by her ability to know everything? [She's] asking questions that we all ask ourselves. We all make decisions in our lives. It's 'I made a choice at a moment in time for very good reasons, but is that choice still relevant to me?'" the showrunner shared.
Meanwhile, CarterMatt reveals that the upcoming episode titled "Cops vs. Zombies" will see the girls going after a new killer. Someone was murdered while attending a zombie convention. They must sift through the evidence to find out the motive for the crime.
"Rizzoli & Isles" season 7 airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on TNT.
