'Reign' season 4 premiere date: new episodes delayed to avoid competition with 'Game of Thrones' season 7?

(Reign / Facebook)'Reign' season 4 is rumored to premiere sometime 2017.

The CW has renewed "Reign" for a fourth season, despite rumors of a possible cancellation due to a drop in ratings. And while the upcoming installment is said to come sometime May 2017, recent reports suggest that the initial premiere date has now been moved.

According to Parent Herald, the May 2017 air date has been moved to a later date due to fears of colliding with "Game of Thrones" season seven, which will be released by HBO in the summer of 2017.

While the report has not been confirmed by The CW, there is a possibility that the network is trying to move "Reign" season four from doom, especially considering that "GoT" is undeniably one of the most popular television shows these days. If The CW decides to put "Reign" in line with "GoT," chances are, the former will see a further dip in ratings.

"Reign" is in the hot seat these days as rumors keep battering the historical drama. It is also said that the fourth run of the series could be its last. Since the figures in terms of ratings have remained stagnant, The CW could potentially end Queen Mary's journey in season four.

On the other hand, there's a good chance that the show will soar to greater heights if the storylines for the new episodes will be good enough for viewers. Also, there are new character additions that could bring more color to the show.

Deadline confirms that Adam Croasdell will be joining the cast of "Reign" season four as Queen Mary's (Adelaide Kane) third husband, Bothwell. The man is described as someone who genuinely loves Mary. Will this love do good for him or will it put him in jeopardy?

Croasdell is known for his performance in "EastEnders" where he played Dr. Al Jenkins. His addition to "Reign" is considered a good deal for the series, especially since his role is sure to touch the hearts of viewers.

"Reign" season four is expected to premiere sometime 2017.
