'Reign' season 3 news: Two characters come back to show; Francis, Mary find an ally in Lord Narcisse
The premiere episode of "Reign" season 3 is just a few days away and it seems fans can expect to see several big changes upon the show's return.
For one, the show will be changing time slots. The popular CW drama has been aired Thursday nights these past two seasons but now, "Reign" will be seen every Friday. The decision to move the show to the last day of the week was reportedly to give it a better shot at the ratings. As it stands, a Thursday time slot will pit it against "Scandal."
Recently released photos also reveal the return of two characters, Catherine (Megan Follows) and Charles (Spencer Macpherson). One photo, which is from the season's second episode, shows Catherine in deep conversation with her son Francis.
Fans are no doubt surprised with this development as the two ended last season on bitter terms, with the King even banning his mother from the castle. She was last seen conspiring with Queen Elizabeth.
Francis' younger brother Charles appears to be back as well. The renowned mischief-maker returns from Spain and wants to learn from Francis. Or so he says.
The health of the King of France will be a big hurdle this season as well, according to "Reign" showrunner Laurie McCarthy. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, McCarthy revealed that Francis' health might take a turn for the worse in season 3, which will color his judgment and the decisions that he and his wife Mary will make.
On a good note, Francis (Toby Regbo) and Mary's (Adelaide Kane) relationship appears to be stronger than ever, and McCarthy teased Frary shippers that they will be seeing more sweet moments between the two.
Fans will also be seeing an unexpected ally, Craig Parker's Lord Narcisse. The usually scheming villain will reportedly extend his help when Mary and Francis' enemies start to plot against them. The Lord also appears to be even more determined to win Lola (Anna Popplewell) over this time around.
"Reign" will be returning for its third season on Oct. 9 on The CW.
