Razer Nabu Watch news: Device arrives with bulky design and two screens
As an increasing number of smartwatches have been entering the market, manufacturers who have traditionally not been associated with the watch making industry have been keen to put up their own offerings in the space. However, when Razer brought out the Nabu Watch, it billed it as a "a watch that's smart."
This tagline attached to the Nabu Watch means that Razer is portrays the device as something more than a "smartwatch." Additionally, when the Nabu Watch was showcased during CES 2016, it made an impact with its size and not just its features. Commenting on it, ArsTechnica states that its design is bland and is noticeably lacking in any "bling," which is present on other smartwatches like the Gear S2 and the Huawei Watch.
However, with the Nabu Watch, attention is first drawn to its huge screen, which is made up of a primary digital display that shows the time. As for notifications on the Nabu Watch, they are posted on the secondary screen, which is a 128 x 16 OLED version. This splitting of the display means that battery life on the device is quite good. In fact, when users are employing the OLED screen to check notifications from a paired smartwatch, the Nabu Watch can last for about one week on a single charge. However, if they only employ the digital display to check the time, the device can last for a year on a single charge.
As for the design of the Nabu Watch, it has four physical buttons around its round case, which can be quite bulky especially when worn on small wrists. But helpfully, it is water proof up to a depth of 50 meters and it is also shock proof. However, when it comes to sensors, the device does not have a heart rate sensor but has a 3-axis accelerometer and it can monitor the user's sleep. Additionally, it can be used to keep an account of calories spent, distance covered during a workout and activity. Finally, its price tag is pegged at $149 but there is also a Forged edition which is priced at $199.
