PS4 Update 4.50 release date: Sony launches the latest PlayStation system update

Sony has recently launched the System Software Update 4.50 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Pro consoles. The upgrade comes with a number of improvements in terms of gameplay, and it includes support for external hard drives and support for PSVR 3D video.

The update reportedly improves the overall gaming experience for PlayStation Pro gamers. A few PS4 titles that were launched prior to the PS4 Pro's debut have also been improved. By using the console's boost mode, players can now enjoy their games with higher frame rates.

Update 4.5 also allows gamers to make use of external drives. However, the device must have at least 250 GB of storage space. The system now supports drives that can carry up to 8 TB worth of storage. More importantly, the device should come with a USB 3.0 port. Although the external drive can be used for storing the bulk of gaming files, the internal drive can still hold user saved games.

In addition, the PSVR 3D Blu-Ray support now allows PSVR owners to watch Blu-Ray videos without the use of a 3D TV. The added stereoscopic 3D feature reportedly makes up for the effects of 3D specs.

Aside from the aforementioned features, the update has redesigned a few elements in the console's system, such as the menu and the notifications. The menu is now less cluttered, providing easier accessibility to all the features the console has to offer. Meanwhile, the way in which players receive notifications has been revamped. The notifications will now come in a form of a list.

A few users were able to test drive the beta mode for the Software Update 4.50 when it was unveiled last Feb. 3, but it was only made available to everyone last March 9. Gamers can find and download the 399 MB update on their consoles.
