Many fans might have already concluded that "Prometheus" and the "Alien" franchise are somehow connected to each other, with the former also serving as a prequel to the franchise. However, movie director, Ridley Scott, said that although there is a connection between the two franchises, sadly, fans will have to wait for a couple more years because "Prometheus 2" is not, in any way, going to be connected to the "Alien" film series.

In an interview with the German site, Filmfutter, Scott explained how the connection between the "Prometheus" franchise and the "Alien" franchise will come about and the director envisioned the origins of the creature as something like a bacterial warfare.

"The whole point is to explain the 'Alien' franchise and how and why the creation of the aliens. I always thought of the Alien as kind of a piece of bacterial warfare," Scott told Filmfutter via Screenrant. "I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship, holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction."

When the director was asked if the film will have some sort of connection to the "Alien" franchise, Scott said that the movie will definitely tie into the movies, but he did clarify that fans will not see the connection in the sequel, "Prometheus 2." "It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the Alien franchise," Scott said.

As mentioned in our report last July, Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are expected to return for the sequel to reprise their roles as, David and Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, respectively. So far, those are the only details that have surfaced about the film.

The premiere date of "Prometheus 2" has yet to be announced but according to Screenrant, filming for the sequel is scheduled to begin sometime in 2016.
