'Pokemon Uranium' release date, news: Creators cease development of fan-made 'Pokemon' game
The fan-made Pokemon game, "Pokemon Uranium," has officially been taken down by Nintendo. After it successfully launched in August, the developers behind the game decided to put an end to the game.
Pokemon games across all platforms have been gaining so much success, especially the mobile game "Pokemon GO." However, "Pokemon Uranium" is a different story. It is a fan-made game; it is not under any of Pokemon's major game developers like Nintendo or Niantic Labs and was developed within nine years.
"Pokemon Uranium" got one and a half million downloads ever since it launched last Aug. 13. The game lets players do online trading and battle with 150 new fan-made pocket monsters with a new fan-made region where the gameplay takes place. However, after racking up more than a million of downloads, the creators themselves took down the game from the site as their way of respecting Nindtendo's wishes. Apparently, the developers have been getting a lot of take-down notice from the legal team of Nintendo.
Although the fan-made game developers assured fans that the game is still alive and kicking, last week, they announced on Twitter that they have decided to put an end to the development of the game.
"While we have not personally been contacted, it's clear what their wishes are, and we respect those wishes deeply," the developers said in a statement on the game's website, which has since been taken down as well. "We have no connection to fans who reupload the game files to their own hosts, and we cannot verify that those download links are all legitimate. We advise you to be extremely cautious about downloading the game from unofficial sources."
The removal of "Pokemon Uranium" happened around the time when "Pokemon GO" reportedly lost 15 million users. However, the earnings of the game are still going strong.
Despite being a fan-made game, "Pokemon Uranium" received favorable reviews from the gaming community.
