Sony's current-gen console, PlayStation 4, is still quite fresh from its release date and had just celebrated its second birthday from its initial launch a few years back, November 15, 2013. However, rumors have recently emerged speculating the potential unveiling of the next-gen console, PlayStation 5, despite the fact that the current gaming rig is still quite fresh in the market. Furthermore, reports also suggest that AMD might offer a new Accelerated Processor Unit (commonly referred to as APU) for the console and it is said to be five times faster than the current one.

According to the report from WCCF Tech, the source has recently received information regarding the next APU build that AMD might use for Sony's next-gen console, the PlayStation 5, from an anonymous person who is allegedly close to the manufacturing company.

In terms of power, the unnamed source has told WCCF Tech that this new build of APU will be much faster than the current one. To be more specific, it is said to be five times faster when it comes to processing using its Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture.

As for the shipping or release date of this new APU build from AMD, WCCF Tech has reported that they are planning to start rolling out the chipset to the console manufacturers by the year 2018, which might also act as a timeframe for the availability of the PlayStation 5.

Meanwhile, another timeframe has suggested that the PS5, as well as its expected feature like the 4K graphics quality and the buffed up virtual reality support, might also have a chance to become available in the year 2020, as stated on Neurogadget.

However, since AMD still hasn't made any official statements or confirmation yet, it's best for fans to take this one with a pinch of salt for now until proven otherwise by both parties, AMD and Sony.
