'Pitch Perfect 3' being seriously considered after second instalment proved a box office hit

Will the Barden Bellas come back for a third time? That is the question on everyone's minds, especially since the sequel "Pitch Perfect 2" made a killing in the box office, earning a total of almost $150 million to-date, giving "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Tomorrowland" a run for their money. And considering that Pitch Perfect 2 was made for a very small fraction of the amount the other two movies had budgeted for, separately, then we wouldn't fault the producers from exploring a third installment.

Director, Elizabeth Banks, speaking to Access Hollywood's Scott "Movie" Mantz, weighed in on the possibility during a press junket for her latest movie, "Love & Mercy."

"We're thinking about, we're thinking about it very seriously," Banks said. "Of course we're at the very beginning of that process. We would love to spend more time with these characters that everyone's fallen so hard in love with."

However, at the end of "Pitch Perfect 2," all the main Bellas have graduated, and the only one remaining in school is the Legacy, played by Hailee Steinfeld. So what are the possibilities for "Pitch Perfect 3?"

The movie could focus on the lives of the Bellas outside of college. We know Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) is engaged to Bumper, who has joined "The Voice" reality singing competition. We know Beca (Anna Kendrick) will pursue becoming a record producer. So maybe the movie will focus on that.

Wilson, during the Los Angeles premiere of "Pitch Perfect 2" shared with The Hollywood Reporter that her vision of the "Pitch Perfect 3" would be all the Bellas together becoming a legitimate singing group out of college. Maybe Beca, the new music producer will be instrumental in getting the "pitches" back together. Wilson also added that an origins story for Fat Amy might be fun as well. Maybe something that can happen while Fat Amy considers a future with Bumper?

Maybe the Bellas will return to defend their World Championship title when the competition happens again in a couple of years.

If and when the 3rd installment of the movie is confirmed, Banks has expressed her interest to direct again. Kay Cannon, the writer for the 1st and 2nd movies would love to write the 3rd one as well.
