Philadelphia 76ers trade rumors 2016: Jazz's Alec Burks a backcourt upgrade?

The Philadelphia 76ers are still finding ways on how they can speed up the rebuilding phase and contend quickly. A move that could be of help to them is trading for guard Alec Burks of the Utah Jazz.

In a trade scenario, the 76ers acquire Burks by sending forward Hollis Thompson, guard Nik Stauskas, and a future second-round pick to the Jazz.

This can address a number of roster issues for the 76ers. First, the elimination of Thompson lessens the front line congestion they are experiencing. Then, the arrival of Burks may resolve some of their backcourt problems.

Philadelphia is known for needing veteran presence at backcourt and Burks has five seasons of experience under his belt. At 6-foot-6, head coach Brett Brown can use him at multiple positions which is always a plus for any team. The 25-year-old might even be utilized as a ball handler to add size at point guard.

Aside from Burks being a backcourt improvement with his size and experience, he also had impressive numbers in the previous three seasons.

Last season, Burks averaged 13.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, with two assists per outing. Unfortunately, he was forced to miss a huge chunk of their campaign due to an ankle injury.

Burks would be an excellent addition to the 76ers and that is why it is possible for them to pursue him. However, it is unknown why the Jazz will engage in this.

During the off-season, the Jazz accomplished major roster adjustments, and maybe as of now, they are disinterested in dealing away any player, especially someone like Burks who is part of their young core that made the franchise significant again even if it is yet to reach the playoffs.

But the NBA never lacks surprises so there is a chance this turns to reality in the upcoming season or in the future.
