"Person of Interest" will end with the upcoming season 5 after CBC announced the show's cancellation.

According to Los Angeles Times, CBS announced last week the lineup of shows that will be renewed for the following years; however, the science fiction crime drama did not make it to the cut. The 13-episode fifth season of "Person of Interest" will premiere on May 3, but it will be show's and creator Jonathan Nolan's final season.

Nolan and executive producer Greg Plageman said in a press statement that the team behind the show is excited to share to the fans and viewers the final season of the series. They added, "This subversive little paranoia-inducing cyberpunk-thriller is for you and would not have been possible without your support. As life has come to imitate 'Person of Interest,' it's been our great privilege to work on the show for the past five seasons. We can't wait for you to experience this thrilling and final chapter."

The show being axed has been rumored for quite some time now, and CBS seems to run out of interest in "Person of Interest." Previous reports have already hinted the show's eventual final bow. According to TV Series Finale, two months before the announcement of cancellation, "Star Wars" director and the show's executive producer J.J. Abrams has expressed that the team was planning the upcoming season as if it were the finale.

Abrams predicted the fate of the show will end in season 5. He added, "The only heartbreak there is how much good story there was to come if it were to have continued."

Good news is, the show will see a familiar face starting May 3 because Sarah Shahi will reprise her role as Sameen Shaw. TV Line reported that Shahi's character worked as the wheelman of the gang. Despite fans' expectations for her to be a mainstay, she left the show because she took a maternity leave.
