While the OnePlus 3, the latest flagship smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer, has been attracting attention since it launched this week, another device is slowly being pushed to the sidelines. This particular device is the OnePlus X, which released last year.

Even as OnePlus was announcing that the OnePlus X would not be refreshed this year during the event to launch the OnePlus 3, Engadget stated that the device was being ignored in favor of the flagship. It went on to state that with this particular announcement, OnePlus is looking to keep the focus on its flagship OnePlus 3 device, instead of also offering a cheaper device. Explaining this, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau stated that the company was planning to focus on one "true flagship" and not offer more budget-priced devices.

When the OnePlus X released last year, many, including Engadget, were impressed with its design. More importantly, the smartphone came with a metal frame and its back panel was made from glass while another version had ceramic. This design was extremely different from the flagship OnePlus 2 smartphones that released last year, with their back panels made from sandstone and various other materials like wood and Kevlar.

Customers were pretty happy with the OnePlus X and they also liked the price tag of $249, which was considered to be extremely affordable. Many reviewers also provided the device with a respectable rating, even though it did not have LTE bands that could be used in the United States.

However, all these plus points do not seem to have worked in favor of the OnePlus X smartphone lineup and it is likely that last year's device will be the only one made. Meanwhile,  OnePlus is looking to build its brand and its flagship lineup. There are also indications that the company is focusing on its operating system, Oxygen OS, which runs on the international variants of its phones, and has plans to merge it with Hydrogen OS, which is developed as a skin for devices in China.
