"Once Upon a Time" is due to return in September and fans of the show can no longer wait to find out how the series pans out.

Given the events featured in the finale, the anticipation for the show really comes as no suprise. While details surrounding the series' return are scarce, thankfully, the cast and crew of "Once Upon a Time" has given its followers a little bit of their fairytale fix.

"Once Upon a Time," which debuted four years ago in 2011, is an American fantasy television show created by the writers of the highly successful series, "Lost." It explores the possibility of fairy-tale legends colliding with real life, with Emma Swan, played by Jennifer Morrison, in the thick of it all.

The finale of "Once Upon a Time" season four saw Emma deciding to sacrifice herself to be devoured by the Dark One in order to provide Regina the happy ending that Emma thinks she deserves. Before the Dark One consumed her, however, she asked her parents to look for Merlin so that they can find a way to bring her back and as she kissed her Hook good bye, she finally got to tell him those three words, "I love you."

With Emma consumed by darkness, the only question in every fan's mind is how her change would affect her blossoming relationship with Hook. At the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con, Colin O'Donoghue expresses what he expects his character to be like at the onset of season five and said,

"It's really difficult for Hook, because he spends most of the last season trying to protect her from the darkness, because he understands what that means. Certainly he's trying to protect her heart."

Aside from Dark Emma, season five would also see the introduction of several new characters including Wicked Witch Zelena, Robin Hood, Merlin and King Arthur.

"Once Upon a Time" season five will air on Sept. 27, 2015.
