Nina Dobrev to return in final season of 'Vampire Diaries season 7'?

Fans were treated to a "Flashback Friday" when "The Vampire Diaries" closed its seventh season with one heck of a finale. Nina Dobrev, who left the series after season 6, lent her voice to the season ender, giving fans the treat they've been anticipating.
Even though it wasn't exactly what people had in mind, Dobrev's sort-of cameo was worth it. The finale saw Damon (Ian Somerhalder) defeating the Everlasting. He tried to escape from the vault where it was trapped, but the evil force that lurked within it called out to him. And to make matters worse, it took the form of Elena's voice.
In an interview with TVLine, showrunner and executive producer Julie Plec told the story of how the arrangement came about.
"I reached out and said, 'We can either cobble it together from a bunch of episodes, or you can come in and see everybody and do ADR.' She chose to do it in person, which was great, because it was a nice little personal Nina visit," Plec shared.
It was previously suspected that Dobrev would return to the show eventually in its final season. A source previously told HollywoodLife that Dobrev was "10,000 percent coming back" for the end of the show.
A separate TVLine interview confirmed that this is the plan in place. And even though there has been some doubt in that, fans will be delighted to know that Plec once again echoed the same sentiments.
"It's what she and I kind of agreed on when she decided to move on, and it's what I've got in my head," Plec said, according to the initial TVLine interview.
Of course, there is the possibility that Dobrev might want to come back earlier in the series, which Plec would gladly accommodate. However, if nothing changes, she'll be "sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end."
No premiere date has been set for "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. And although there have been rumors that season 8 will be its last, nothing of the sort has been officially confirmed.
