Nikon has unveiled two of its newest 4K DSLR cameras – the D5 and the D500. The two cameras unveiled during the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show both feature 4K Ultra HD video capabilities. The latest Nikon cameras were developed for professional photographers.

"Nikon has answered the call from photographers to once again re-invent this camera category and offer an unmatched combination of performance and value that is hard for any photographer to resist," said Masahiro Horie, Director for Marketing and Planning, Nikon.

The Nikon D5 camera features a 20.8 MP full-frame CMOS sensor with a wide ISO range of 100 to 102,400, but can be extended up to 3,280,000. The DSLR comes with the new Multi-Cam 20K autofocus system with 153 points and 99 cross-type sensors. It also has a new EXPEED 5 image processor. Photographers can shoot 12 frames per second and up to 200 shots in a single burst.

The D5 DSLR also comes with a 3.2-inch touchscreen LCD monitor with 2.36 million dot pixels. It has 4K Ultra HD video recording capabilities at 30 frames per second.

The Nikon D500 camera is a lot like the D5 DSLR. It also comes a lot of the same features including the autofocus system, image processor and touchscreen LCD monitor. However, the D500 comes with a smaller 20.9 MP DX-format (APS-C) sensor. The camera's standard ISO range stops at 512,000 but can be extended to 1,640,000.

The D500 DSLR captures 4K UHD video up to 30p (3840x2160) at 30 frames per second.

While it may have slightly lower specs, the Nikon D500 comes with the new SnapBridge system built-in. With the wireless communication technology, the camera stays connected to the user's smartphone continuously using Bluetooth. Thus, image transferring is seamless and uninterrupted.

The Nikon D5 and D500 DSLR cameras can now be pre-ordered and will be available by March. The Nikon D5 is priced at $6,496 and the Nikon D500 is priced at $2,000.
