When "New Girl" returns for its fifth season, viewers will find the apartment missing its very bubbly tenant, Jess. Jess will be sequestered for jury duty and will not be appearing for several episodes. This is due to actress Zooey Deschanel going on maternity leave.

Nick, Schmidt and Winston decide to rent out Jess' room and the space will be temporarily occupied by Reagan (Megan Fox). Reagan is described as a gorgeous pharmaceutical sales representative who is in town for business.

"We were in an interesting spot as an ensemble, when we lost one of our lead characters for five episodes. We replaced Jess' energy with a different energy in the loft," said Jake Johnson, who plays Nick. While the vibe will be different, Johnson promises that the show still stays true to its core.

After getting engaged last season, Schmidt decides to plan his own wedding to Cece. Unfortunately, things don't turn out as expected. According to actor Max Greenfield, "he's got a lot of vision and not enough money." Hannah Simone (Cece) also teased that the engagement will be their most interesting plot point yet.

Feeling out of place with the departure of Coach and Schmidt's engagement, Winston immediately shows interest in Reagan. However, things don't go smoothly as she reminds him of another aspect of his life. Meanwhile, Reagan sets her sights on Nick.

Will there be romance for Nick and Reagan? While Jess and Nick shippers are still hoping for a reunion, Johnson says it will likely only happen during the end of the series. "I think [Nick and Jess] are going to hook up, then Reagan is going to come back. And Nick will be like, 'What do I do?'" Fox teased.

To see how the season unfolds, be sure to catch season 5 of "New Girl" premiering on Jan. 5, Tuesday at 8 p.m. on Fox.
