'NCIS' season 14 premiere spoilers: Fornell-Kort face off round two to happen soon?

(Facebook/NCIS)Fornell's recovery will take time in "NCIS" season 14.

Ex-CIA agent Trent Kort (David Dayan Fisher) may rise from the dead to finish his mission in the upcoming season of "NCIS."

In the show's last installment, Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and the rest of the squad were engaged in a manhunt for a fugitive, a former British agent who entered the United States illegally. Although he was suspected of being the bad guy at first, it was revealed later on that he wanted to contact ex-NCIS agent Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) to ask for help in exposing the true face of the traitor. The former British agent wanted to look through Ziva's deceased father's papers for evidence proving he was innocent. Kort, in the meantime, had been involved with criminal activities and free of suspicions until the British agent threatened to blow the whistle on him.

Racing against time, Kort made sure that those papers were never found. He sent someone to destroy Ziva's father's farmhouse where the evidence was supposedly kept. Unfortunately, Ziva was killed. The NCIS, however, already know of Kort's true colors and was waiting to apprehend him. The agent managed to shoot Tobias Fornell (Joe Spano) though before the authorities got to him. Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), enraged that Ziva was dead, opened fire, along with the other agents, when Kort made a move to get his gun and did not stop until Kort was dead.  Although the villain was obviously a goner in that scene, some sources (as per Movie News Guide) posit that he is still alive and waiting for the perfect chance for revenge.

Kort may want to finish off Fornell, who is still recuperating from his wound. Gibbs and his family feared for Fornell's life during the finale when his condition was touch and go. He eventually opened his eyes and was on the road to recovery. Executive producer Gary Glasberg said in an interview that it would take a while for the agent to be on his feet again. He told TV Line that they would play out the healing period "in real time," which means viewers would get to witness him getting frustrated with his slow progress.

"NCIS" season 14 is expected to return in Fall 2016 on CBS.
