'NCIS' season 14 episode 10 spoilers: Gibbs visits Fornell for the holidays

(Facebook/NCIS)Fornell returns in the upcoming episode of "NCIS."

Gibbs (Mark Harmon) will spend Christmas with his old friend Fornell (Joe Spano) in the upcoming episode of "NCIS."

In the episode titled "The Tie That Binds," the synopsis (as per CarterMatt) reveals that viewers will finally see how Fornell has been doing after he was shot. The FBI agent was gunned down by Trent Kort (David Dayan Fisher), the rogue CIA operative who was also responsible for Ziva's (Cote de Pablo) death.

Kort's criminal activities were discovered in season 13. He was killed by Gibbs. Fornell, who was shot in the chest, was in a coma and his daughter Emily (Juliette Angelo) feared he was not going to make it.

Although she may have blamed him at first, Emily depended on Gibbs for support while her father was at the hospital. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when Fornell gained consciousness. Because of his ordeal, he was ordered to take a long rest.

With the holidays just around the corner, Gibbs plans to spend some time with Fornell to catch up on the latest happenings in each other's lives.

Meanwhile, the others NCIS members will exchange gifts before going home to their respective families for the holidays.

Before the break though, the squad will take on a new case that has an unsettling connection to Ducky (David McCallum). A Navy captain was murdered, and when the NCIS finds pieces of evidence leading to his killer, the clues will point them to the medical examiner's mother, who died in season 7.

Ducky was terribly depressed when his mother passed away. His parents were divorced and he was raised by her. Viewers can expect to see some flashback scenes where a young Ducky (Adam Campbell) reflects on the choices he made about his life.

Last episode, the NCIS was tapped to protect Congresswoman Jenna Fleming (Mary Stuart Masterson) who had been receiving death threats. Director Vance (Rocky Carroll) had to personally convince the politician to be put under protective detail. Her personal aide was the one who contacted the NCIS about the escalating threats because the congresswoman did not believe that anyone would want to kill her.

"NCIS" season 14 episode 10 airs on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
