"NCIS" fans were dealt with shocking news when it was announced that Michael Weatherly was leaving the hit series after 13 seasons and that two new agents are coming in to join the team. Of course, fans are wondering who will be tapped to step in and fill the star's considerably large shoes. More importantly, can anyone really replace Very Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo?

The answer is no. No one can replace him and according to CBS Entertainment President Glenn Geller, the network has no plans to do so. Entertainment Weekly reported that CBS knows no one can replace Weatherly's character but the producers are looking into a couple of roles.

"It's not a direct replacement of Tony DiNozzo, but we are looking at a couple additions [for] this season," Geller shared.

Geller also revealed that showrunner Gary Glasberg and his fellow "NCIS" producers and writers are still deciding on how the fan favourite will be written out. How DiNozzo will make his exit is a big concern for fans, who don't want Gibbs' right-hand man to be killed off. Design & Trend had even listed down possible ways the writers could go. According to the site, aside from killing him off, it's also possible that DiNozzo would finally agree to lead his own team, maybe in another country. He could also settle down with his love, Ziva David or run away with his ex, Jeanne Benoit.

While it's universally agreed that no one can replace DiNozzo, it's been reported that a new female agent is headed to "NCIS." TV Line reported that viewers will be introduced to two probies in season 14. One of the new additions is said to be a woman named "Tess," who recently transferred from New York's Counter-Terrorism Unit. The character is described as "two parts bulldog, one part sweet kitten," one who can keep up with politics and the grittier and more physical aspects of the job.

Even though Weatherly's departure is a sad eventuality, the cast, crew and fans still have something to celebrate – "NCIS" 300th episode! CBS will be streaming a cake-cutting ceremony on the show's official Facebook page on Feb. 9 and fans can tune in to see the cast toast this remarkable achievement.
